Feast of the Holy Spirit in Gangi

The Feast of the Holy Spirit in Gangi traditionally takes place on the Monday following Pentecost. It is a festival with ancient origins characterized by a long procession of forty-two statues depicting the Saints and the Madonna moving, according to a precise order, towards the sanctuary of the Holy Spirit< /strong>. Each simulacrum is carried on the shoulders of men, women and children. The youngest brotherhood opens the long procession, that of Saint Joseph u poviru, i.e. the poor, while the oldest, that of the Holy Spirit, closes it.
Once you reach the sanctuary of the Holy Spirit, the so-called cursa de miracula de Santi takes place, i.e. the race of the miracles of the Saints, which sees each simulacrum cross the square in front of the sanctuary twice. At the end of this ceremony, each simulacrum is loaded onto a truck and will return to the church to which it belongs, with the exception of the simulacrum of the Patron Saint, San Cataldo, which will be carried back on the shoulder.
