Easter in Acate

The rites of Holy Week in Acate are of great importance.
The celebrations begin on Palm Sunday when Jesus' entry into Jerusalem is commemorated with the traditional blessing of typically intertwined palms and olive branches.
On Wednesday, the procession with the statue depicting Christ at the Column takes place.
The Good Friday procession is very evocative, marked by the three falls of the Via Crucis and characterized by the presence of a child Veronica who, in her father's arms, dries Christ's face three times. At the same time, the procession of the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows takes place, accompanied by the Pious Women carrying nails, the sheet and the sign with the words INRI written on it. The two statues then meet and, as a sign of greeting, the statue of the Son raises its right arm three times. The procession of the two statues moves towards Calvary where the Crucifixion takes place. In the evening, the theatrical performance of I Setti Parti takes place, which ends with the procession with the Christ of the urn.
On Easter Sunday, the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration takes place at the Mother Church.
