Easter in Biancavilla
Traditions
Holy Week in Biancavilla includes various religious events rich in faith and folklore.
The celebrations begin on Palm Sunday with the representation of the Living Way of the Cross in which over one hundred participants take part and during which various moments of the life of Christ Jesus are staged, from the Last Supper to the Crucifixion on Mount Calvary.
On Holy Thursday the traditional Eucharistic celebration in Coena Domini with the ritual of the washing of the feet and the visit of the Cruciddi, i.e. the tombs set up in the various city churches.
The Good Friday takes place the The Search during which the simulacrum of the Virgin of Sorrows goes in search of the simulacrum of the Son. In the evening the Procession of the Mysteries takes place where eight groups of statues are accompanied by the brotherhoods. The procession is also known as the a sira de Tri Misteri procession, as originally only three simulacra were carried in procession: Christ at the Column, the Ecce Homo and the Dead Christ. It is a very ancient rite which has its origins in 1600.
On Holy Saturday, late in the evening, the ritual of the Tila Waterfall takes place, during which the cloth covering the simulacrum of the risen Christ is removed.
On Easter Sunday the traditional rite of the Paci takes place: the simulacrum of the Archangel Gabriel reaches the simulacrum of the Madonna to communicate the resurrection of her Son; follows the kiss between the simulacra of the Virgin and the Risen Christ.

Representation of the Passion and death of Christ through a dramaturgy with readings of texts accompanied by musical bases.
