Easter in Mussomeli

During Holy Week in Mussomeli, ancient and traditional rites are held, which the city's brotherhoods take part in.
On Holy Thursday the Sepulchres are set up with the traditional lavureddi, that is, plates of wheat that, at the beginning of Lent, are made to germinate in the dark to take on the characteristic yellow-gold color. In the evening, the following take place: the procession of Christ at the Column led by the Archconfraternity of the Holy Sacrament; the pilgrimage of the brotherhoods of the Madonna dei Miracoli with Jesus in the Garden of Olives, of the Madonna del Carmine with Saint John the Evangelist, and of the Madonna delle Vanelle with the Meeting of Jesus with Veronica.
On Good Friday the procession of the Madonna Addolorata takes place, in which the brotherhood of San Giovanni and the faithful take part, which reaches all the other churches in the city to symbolize the search for Jesus imprisoned by the Romans. In the afternoon the procession of the Cross takes place, accompanied by the Archconfraternity of the SS. Sacramento. The body of Jesus is then placed on the stretcher and is carried from the Mother Church to Calvary where he will be crucified. In the late afternoon the statues of San Giovanni, Maddalena, Veronica and the Addolorata are carried to Piazza Umberto, at the foot of Calvary. Finally, the procession of the dead Christ takes place, placed in the grandiose Urn, preceded by the statues of St. John, Mary Magdalene, Veronica and Our Lady of Sorrows, each of which is preceded by the banner and the brotherhood of the church to which the statue belongs.
On Easter Sunday the traditional Giunta takes place with the characteristic annacata di li Santi which celebrates the victory of life over death.
