Historical re-enactment in San Piero Patti
The Historical Reenactment in San Piero Patti takes place in the month of November and commemorates the coming of Federico IV of Aragon to San Piero Patti: in December 1356, the king of Sicily Federico IV of Aragon went to the village with the intent to quell a revolt. But to his surprise he was welcomed with great celebrations. So the king, having listened to the people, freed it from the illegitimate feudal lord of the town and from that day San Piero Patti became state land.
On the occasion of the historical re-enactment the traditional historical procession takes place with figures in period costume, flag-wavers and jugglers, and the Dama Castellana, a real game of living checkers on a chessboard where a typical dispute of the feudal age is relived with around forty figures. The pawns move on command while the neighborhood banners are the frame of a scenic representation of the neighborhood challenge.
