Church of Sant'Antonio in Monforte San Giorgio
The Church of Sant'Antonio da Padova in Monforte San Giorgio is a small building of worship located in the heart of the neighborhood of the same name. The church is also known as the Church of Sant'Antonio e San Giovanni, in memory of the church of San Giovanni apostolo, located nearby and now no longer existing.
The date of construction of the church is not known but it is certain that it already existed in 1569, as evidenced by a register of writings.
The simple gabled façade, delimited by two pilasters culminating in two pinnacles with a square base, has a single portal flanked by pilasters and surmounted by a broken tympanum, supported by capitals with leaf decoration, inside which there is an aedicule with a shell basin in which a statue of Saint Anthony is housed. At the top there is a window with a round arch. The bell tower, set back against the church, stands to the right of the building. With a square base, in the lower and central part, it has two very narrow windows which resemble slits. The bell tower is made up of four mullioned windows, with a small pillar resting on a balustrade made up of small columns, and surmounted by a pyramid roof with four pinnacles placed at the base of it.
The interior has a single nave and three side altars.
