Biviere lake
Giuseppe Scandura
Lake Biviere is located in the Nebrodi Park in the territory of the municipality of Cesarò.
The lake is immersed in a dense valley floor of the Sollazzo Verde beech forest, on the southern side of the Nebrodi chain, it stretches between the beech woods of the north-eastern slopes of Monte Soro and the north-western ones of Monte Scafi about 5 kilometers from the artificial lake Maullazzo. The presence of water in a mountain area covered by beech forests also represents a privileged point of reference for the life of numerous species of waterfowl and for the rest of the excellent passers-by.
Of note is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the summer months, when the waters of the lake turn red due to the flowering of a microalgae called Euglena sanguinea.
The lake is the destination of many tourists especially during holidays.
To reach the lake it is necessary to take the state road 289 San Fratello Cesarò to the Portella Female Morta junction and, from here, follow the signs towards Lake Maulazzo; after the latter, continue for about 5 km on the dirt road. The walking route is recommended for everyone, because it has no real difficulties and is also ideal for MTB, motocross, quads and off-road vehicles.
