San Pier Niceto

State: ME - Area: Messina surroundings

San Pier Niceto is a small agricultural village located in the Niceto Valley, a short distance from the Tyrrhenian coast in the Messina area.
Born as a fief of the Moncada family, who administered it from 1628 until the arrival of Garibaldi, its history is strictly linked to that of the nearby village of Monforte San Giorgio of which it was a fraction until 1861.
However, its territory boasts a much older history. Its historic center still retains traces of the peoples who reigned here: the Saracens, the Normans, the Swabians and the Aragonese.
San Pier Niceto also includes the two seaside hamlets of San Pier Marina and San Biagio, renowned seaside resorts.
