Venetico Castle
The Venetico Castle, located on top of a hill overlooking the town centre, is the symbol of the village. It is in visual contact with the Saponara castle and the village of Roccavaldina .
The castle was built towards the second half of the 15th century by the Spadafora family and had a military and residential function. It was seriously damaged by the earthquake that hit Messina in 1908 and by the bombings of the last war. In 1920 it was restored at the behest of the Samonà family, descendants of the Spatafora, and was their summer residence until 1969.
It is a building with a quadrilateral plan with cylindrical towers at the corners. The access is located along the south side and has a staircase that once culminated with a drawbridge, which has now disappeared. The city walls still preserve, along the west side, two of the towers and part of the patrol paths. On the north-west side there are the remains of large rooms, once used as a residential area. To the east are the remains of an ancient chapel.
