Borgetto is a small village located a short distance from Palermo.
A popular legend tells of its origins, history places its presence already in the late thirteenth century, a time when Borgetto was a fiefdom under the power of Simone d'Escolo . But the real story of Borgetto begins in 1337 when Margherita d'Escolo became the new lady of the fiefdom: she decided to donate the fiefdom to the Monastery of San Martino delle Scale, on condition that the abbot built a Monastery in the town to be consecrated in Santa Maria delle Ciambre. Thus was born the Monastery of the Madonna del Romitello, still today one of the main attractions of Borgetto together with the churches and the important works kept in them.
