Camporeale

State: PA - Area: Palermo surroundings

Camporeale is a small agricultural center located in the eastern part of the Val di Mazara, in the territory known as Alto Belice.
The history of this village is very ancient: according to recent studies the territory of Monreale has been inhabited for over 15,000; it is also believed that the ancient Roman city of Longaricum would have been located near Camporeale, although the exact position of this city has not yet been identified. The birth of the current town dates back to 22 May 1779, when the king granted the prince of Camporeale Giuseppe Beccadelli of Bologna absolute dominion over the fiefdoms and estates of Macellaro (which since then took the name of Camporeale), Valdibella, Grisì and Massariotta .
Camporeale was hit hard by the 1968 earthquake in the Belice valley. The new buildings subsequently arose downstream from the old town, while the ancient historic center still houses buildings of particular historical and artistic interest.
The Alto Belice area surrounding Camporeale offers numerous routes that combine the naturalistic charm of the landscape , the history contained in the archaeological and cultural sites of the area, with the best production experiences in the agri-food and wine sectors.
