Garibaldi Garden in Palermo
The Giardino Garibaldi in Palermo , also called Villa Garibaldi , is a public garden built on a project by Giovan Battista Filippo Basile in 1863, in the center of Piazza Marina. The villa was named after the national hero Giuseppe Garibaldi precisely to celebrate the very recent birth of the Italian nation. at the same time built by the Oretea Foundry and inspired by an artificial forest that had been prepared in the square for a hunt.
In the villa there are some sculptural busts including that of Giuseppe Garibaldi, Rosolino Pilo, Giovanni Corrao, Raffaele De Benedetto, Luigi Tukory, and Nicola Bălcescu.
Among the many exotic plants found inside the garden, of considerable value is the ficus considered one of the oldest and largest in Italy with a height of 30 meters. Among the other plants present, the presence of a specimen of Podocarpus neriifolius also stands out.
