Butera Palace in Palermo
The Palazzo Butera in Palermo was the princely residence of the Branciforte , princes of Butera, of the Scordia house.
The original nucleus of the building dates back to the 17th century, but when in 1721 the palace became the residence of the Branciforte, the building was enlarged and reconfigured. Following the fire of 1759, the building was restored and embellished with decorations, stuccos, ceramics and furnishings. Of particular interest are the vault with a false balcony and "tromp l'oeil" dome and the frescoes in the five rooms of the main floor depicting pastoral scenes within architecturally designed frames, frescoed by Gioacchino Martorana.
