Forza Archaeological Park in Ispica
The Parco Forza Archaeological Park represents the historical area of Ispica and is included within the Cava d'Ispica . Inside the Parco Forza Archaeological Site are the remains of the old Ispica and the first civilizations that inhabited it.
The name "Forza" derives from "Fortilitium" used to indicate the fortification that protected the territory of Ispica.
The first human settlements on this site date back to the Ancient Bronze Age , around 3000 BC .. There are the places of the old rock settlements, archaic tombs, sanctuaries and numerous artificial caves carved into the rock . There are also remains of more recent settlements such as an amphitheater and the ancient Church of the Annunciation, as well as the majestic Palazzo Marchionale , the most important building of the time which was destroyed following the earthquake of 1693 , of which today we can only admire some details, including floors, granaries and warehouses. There are also the remains of an old stable, including a cave that served as a stable, where both the mangers and various graffiti depicting the horses on the walls have remained in excellent condition. the location of the living nativity scene in Ispica , one of the most important living nativity scenes in Sicily.
