Casasia Mount in Monterosso Almo
Monte Casasia in Monterosso Almo offers splendid natural landscapes and archaeological sites of great historical and cultural interest .
It is believed that Monte Casasia was the site of a settlement probably dating back to the 7th century BC and which was subsequently Hellenized as evidenced by the finds found on site.
On Mount Casasia there is also an ancient necropolis used by the natives themselves who lived in the neighboring village. The discovery of this necropolis happened by chance in 1960 by some hunters who were chasing a ferret.
In the necropolis, 53 tombs directly dug into the limestone rock have been discovered to date, characterized by a square plan and a small chamber in the entrance closed by a large rock. Many of the tombs show extensive damage and collapses.
The natural landscape of Monte Casasia is characterized by the alternation of woods, glades and waterways. Its territory is part of an already well established reforestation program. From the top you can enjoy an exceptional view of Lake Dirillo. In its eastern part flows the Amerillo river, which can be easily accessed and walked along an ancient road of the mills. The paths of Monte Casasia are perfect for hiking and trekking. There are several picnic areas with benches and tables.
