San Filippo Tower in Ragusa
The Torre di San Filippo rises in the rural Hyblean landscape. It is a typical rural noble residence that served as a lookout tower, to better control the work in the fields and the management of the farms. These constructions were characterized by being real forts with clear references to urban residences, by having a garden and an adjoining church.
The style of this ancient castle is completely different from the noble residences found in the province. It has a Gothic door, a labyrinthine plan and a tower. Most likely, the castle was remodeled in 1884, as reported by the date engraved on one of the access doors to the internal courtyard.
The legend linked to this ancient fort makes it even more evocative.
Unfortunately the castle is in a total state of abandonment.
