Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Vittoria
The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Vittoria is located next to the Municipal Theater, in front of the Piazza del Popolo.
The structure was built starting in 1619 but, following the serious damage suffered in following the earthquake of 1693, it was rebuilt in its present form in 1754.
The façade was built in the Hyblean late-Baroque style and is characterized by the protruding central part and the two concave sides which give it dynamism and elegance. The façade is divided into two orders surmounted by the belfry and its tympanum. The presence of sinuous cornices separating the two orders and the belfry restrains the verticalism of the whole.
The interior, with a single nave, symmetrically presents five chapels on each side. of interest are: the canvas "Madonna della Grazia" by Caravaggesque artists; four oval paintings with the figures of Charitas, Fides, Spes and Obedientia; expressive sculptural groups from the Gianforma workshop, representing claw-bearing cherubs, bearing biblical and devotional phrases, related to the theme of the altar and the Franciscan spirit.
