Church of the Calvary in Bisacquino
The Church of Calvario in Bisacquino stands on the top of a small hill, overlooking a small square with dry stone walls embellished with a series of benches, olive trees and flowers.
The area where the church stands is bordered by a large wrought iron gate from which a large staircase leads to the churchyard.
The small church houses a superbly crafted altar, dominated by a small apse with a niche inside which is the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Two stairways branch off from the sides of the churchyard and lead to the terrace above the church where the large central cross stands. The two lateral parts that line the central staircase welcome a garden full of flowers and boxwood plants.
The Calvary takes on an even more suggestive aspect on Good Friday when the statue of Christ is lowered from the cross by the priests, while the singers positioned under the olive tree sing the complaints, followed by the town authorities.
