Entella Cave Natura Reserve
The Entella Cave Nature Reserve presents particularly valuable landscape, geological, vegetational and faunal peculiarities.
Inside the reserve lies the Grotta di Entella, a karst formation that develops inside the Rocca di Entella, an isolated relief of chalky origin , which rises near the confluence of the Belice Sinistro river with the Belice Destro. The cave, once crossed by water, is surrounded by flourishing vegetation and a very interesting fauna heritage. Inside it has slides, wells and formations such as stalagmites and worked plaster of great speleological value. The walls are made up of gypsum macrocrystals, while splendid inflorescences of gypsum crystals, stalactites and stalagmites contribute to making the landscape more evocative.
The part currently explored has an overall development of about 400 meters, but recent explorations have led to the discovery of a new branch, located at a higher altitude than the other known levels of considerable geological, speleological and archaeological interest.
Inside the area there is the artificial lake Garcia, created following the damming of the Belice Sinistro river, which represents a resting place for migratory birds during the wintering period.
