Zabut Castle of Sambuca di Sicilia
The Castle of Zabut stood on the top of the hill on which Sambuca di Sicilia stands.
It was built by the Emir Zabuth, it was owned by William II, it later became the Convent of Monreale, finally it was also used as a prison.
The first Saracen settlement consisted of a castle-fortress from which the Saracen quarter then unraveled. Of the Arab Castle today only the belvedere remains , a small terrace overlooking the sheer drop and an open space that with a majestic staircase overlooks Piazza Baldi Centellis, which hides in its bowels the remains of the prisons and underground walkways of the old Castle.
