Church of San Vincenzo Ferreri in Fiumfreddo di Sicilia
The Church of San Vincenzo Ferreri in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia is the oldest church in the town.
It was built around 1788 as the chapel of the noble Diana family. The building is in fact located next to Palazzo Corvaja, the holiday residence of the Diana family.
The simple gabled façade is crowned with volutes and three spiers, one placed in a central position, two on the sides. It has a single stone portal surmounted by a circular opening. On the door of the church there was originally the coat of arms of the Diana family. Along the side façade there is a second access to the church which is believed to have been reserved for the Diana family who had to occupy the seats closest to the altar during religious functions.
The interior of the church, with a single nave, has three marble altars. Above the central altar, in inlaid polychrome marble, there is a niche with the eighteenth-century wooden statue of San Vincenzo Ferreri. Inside the church are kept: a canvas depicting the Madonna della Purità from the Vasta school of Acireale; a fresco depicting S. Vito in a valuable marble frame; the monument and tomb of a child of the Diana family who died in 1788 at the age of 2 years and 10 months; a valuable marble and stucco washbasin, located in the sacristy.
