Church of San Francesco in Forza D'Agrò

The Church of San Francesco in Forza D'Agrò is a small and ancient building of worship located at the entrance to the city. The church is also known as the Church of San Francesco because it was built in the 15th century at the behest of the Franciscan Friars Minor, who had their convent next to it, now transformed into a civil residence.
The church is characterized by simple lines, in harmony with the teachings of Saint Francis.
The simple façade is delimited by sandstone pilasters and contains a small bell tower. The simplicity of the façade is enlivened by the entrance door, with architrave, in sandstone, finely shaped in the small brackets, engraved with floral and curved motifs, which support the architrave and in the lateral piers made up of overlapping stone blocks. Above the portal there is a large architraved window surmounted by a small niche which houses a small statue of Saint Francis.
The interior, with a nave, preserves a valuable arched bas-relief which surrounds a side altar. Valuable is the niche intended to house the statue of Santa Caterina created in 1682 on the initiative of the notable Francesco Pacuni from Forza, now preserved in the Annunziata cathedral. The marble plaque is valuable, shaped at the edges with curvilinear motifs, which recalls the nobleman Giuseppe Antonio Miano from Forza Italia.
