Museum Pole of Castellammare del Golfo
The Museum Pole La memoria del Mediterraneo is housed within the Arab-Norman castle of Castellammare del Golfo .
The museum aims to preserve and enhance the historical, artistic and ethno-anthropological heritage of the city and its territory. It is divided into four sections: Museum of water and mills, Museum of production activities Annalisa Buccellato, Archaeological Museum and Museum of Maritime activities.
The Museum of Water and Mills exhibits panels illustrative with the history, the characteristics, the operating techniques of the mills describing the water distribution systems that the Arabs created in the rural areas of their conquests. Inside the museum are collected ancient machinery for milling, from wooden wheels to metal ones, from millstones to winches for their lifting, previously collected in the area and adequately restored.
The Museum of Productive Activities Annalisa Buccellato exhibits everyday objects related to the most common agricultural crops, such as cereals, vines, olives, tools for various professions, such as the blacksmith, the shoemaker, the bricklayer, the carpenter, the cooper, the tanner, utensils and household furnishings.
The Archaeological Museum testifies how the city of Castellammare del Golfo was widely populated even during prehistoric times. Important archaeological finds date back to this period: different types of fossils, ancient ceramics and shards from Monte Inici, where there are many of the caves inhabited by the first inhabitants of this place.
The Museum of Marine Activities < / b> is dedicated to the art of fishing, on which the economy of the city of Castellammare del Golfo has always been based. Inside the exhibition rooms there are also ancient finds dating back to the Roman period.
Inside the museum there is also a section dedicated to the Madonna del Soccorso , Patron Saint of Castellammare del Golfo, containing references to the history of the Saint and to the history of the annual Patronal Festival named after her.
