Balio Garden in Erice
The Giardino del Balio di Erice is the village's public garden. It is located on the saddle that joins the north and south sides of the Erice mountain, concluding the ancient medieval village to the east.
Its construction was the result of a agreement between the Municipality of Erice and the Bolognese Count Agostino Sieri Pepoli : the public garden created by the Count after the sale of the ruins of the Towers which became his residence. Count Agostino Pepoli thus rebuilt the pentagonal south tower on the central tower, which had been demolished previously, the crenellated curtain, and created the garden in the English style. He was also responsible for the construction of the underlying Torretta Pepoli, a Moorish-inspired construction. Trapani, the salt pans, the Egadi islands, the Stagnone lagoon and the coasts of Marsala. On the opposite side they look on Mount Cofano and its gulf. The garden extends over the Mesophilic Bosco dei Runzi with the romantic Torretta Pepoli.
