Pepoli Tower in Erice
The Torretta Pepoli of Erice is an eclectic building located below the Venus Castle and the Medieval Towers .
It was built between 1872 and 1880, by Agostino Pepoli, who used it to welcome literary friends of the time and as a place of study for his archaeological research. Conceived by the Count, his unprecedented architectural style recalls Moorish models, medieval architecture with vaguely liberty references.
The architectural body is the harmonious result of different geometric shapes: a parallelepiped surmounted by two towers quadrangular, a cube, which corresponds to the entrance, and a crenellated cylinder. This, completely covered with stained glass, is decorated with black and white ceramic tiles that recall the coat of arms of the Pepoli family.
The intended use of the rooms is not known except for a small kitchenette.
The tower, used as dependance of the Balio Towers, was joined to these by a small path that reached in front of a small door hidden by trees.
