Fici Palace in MArsala
Palazzo Fici is an ancient and prestigious building elected as the symbolic place of '' Marsala, City of Wine ''. In fact, it houses the Municipal Enoteca , thus assuming a strategic role in the promotion of local wine production.
The building falls within the former city walls, at the corner of Via Caturca and via XI Maggio, where the only access to the residence opens up. It was probably built in the period between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In fact, its structure and plan recall the typical elements of the Baroque style.
The facade is characterized by sober openings on Via Caturca according to a typical eighteenth-century taste, while the simplicity of the balcony shelves and the uniformity of the decorative elements are attributable to a later style, close to the models of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The façade is completed at the top by an elegant frame embellished with dense modillions.
The structure of the building is articulated around a central courtyard embellished by a colonnaded portico that is modeled in a double exedra, by a pavement in cobblestones and slabs of stone arranged in a radial pattern, as well as a fountain also in stone on which a coat of arms is mounted. On the ground floor there are various service rooms such as warehouses, stables, remittances. The servants' quarters are located on the mezzanine floor and the manor house on the noble floor. The entrance hall, covered with a barrel vault, the stairs, the colonnade of the portico are some of the important architectural elements closest to the seventeenth-century schemes.
