Mother Church in Paceco
The Mother Church of Paceco, dedicated to the Patron Saint Catherine of Alexandria, is the main religious building in the city.
It was built in the 17th century at the behest of the Fardella Princes, at the time of the foundation of Paceco, and renovated in the 18th century to a design by the architect Giovanni Biagio Amico.
The façade, divided into two orders, presents, on the first order, a central vault inside which the stone portal is located. On the second order there is a large bell cell with three openings surmounted by a large tympanum.
The interior, with a single nave, is richly decorated with stuccoes from the Serpotto school.
Of particular value are: a group made of wood and glue of "The Crucifixion", placed on the main altar, the work of the workshops artisans from Trapani (shows the same technique of creation of the famous Groups of the Mysteries of Trapani; the four altarpieces of the Neapolitan school, dating back to the 17th century attributed to the painter Andrea Malinconico.
