San Vito Lo Capo Fortress Sanctuary Museum
The Museum of the Fortress Sanctuary of San Vito Lo Capo, open in the summer period, exhibits a collection of precious sacred silverware and historical hangings, as well as a section dedicated to the cult of San Vito in Sicily and in Italy.
The museum is housed in the rooms adjacent to the church which were originally intended to welcome noble pilgrims.
The exhibition itinerary is divided into several rooms.
The first room is dedicated to silverware, almost all of Sicilian manufacture, which belong to different, from the end of the 1500s up to the 21st century. The most valuable works of the museum are also kept inside this room: the wooden statue of the Immaculate Conception from the 15th century and a stucco Ecce Homo, the work of Orazio Ferraro in the 16th century, once placed on the main altar of the Sanctuary .
The wallpaper room houses historic paintings from 18th century Palermo manufactures. Among the most valuable works there is the seventeenth-century green velvet chasuble and the collection of red wallpaper.
In the room dedicated to popular devotion, objects given as gifts to the Saint are exhibited: ex votos, woodcuts, oleographs, holy pictures, statuettes, ceramics and glass paintings from all over Europe.
From the terrace of the building it is possible to enjoy a wonderful panorama.
