Villa Regina Margherita in Trapani
The Villa Regina Margherita is the main public garden of the city of Trapani .
The park was created at the behest of the municipal administration, shortly after the unification of Italy, and is named after Queen Margherita of Savoy. Inside there is a pond, with geese, ducks and black and white swans, aviaries with various species of birds, grouse and parrots. Along the main avenue, and along the secondary ones that wind from it, there are column drums with Doric capitals which are part of the destroyed Garibaldi Theater.
The villa Margherita presents a botanical itinerary divided into four sectors consisting of flower beds of different sizes and shapes. The entrance has a long avenue of splendid Canarian palms.
In the first sector we find numerous pines, oleander bushes, a Bohemian olive tree and numerous pittospores. At the end of the first sector there are the dwarf palm and the Livistona Chinensis palm.
In the second sector there are instead trees of Ficus microcarpa, a luxuriant specimen of corinocarp and a tree commonly called "Barrel Tree" which stands out for its enlargement of the trunk. There is also a nursery where there are numerous plants grown in pots.
In the third sector there are three examples of lagoon, a centuries-old plane tree, Canarian palms and a banana tree. Of particular interest is a specimen of Duranta plumieri with a strangely intertwined trunk. In the fourth sector, a secular specimen of Phoenix dactylifera and two secular specimens of Ficus microcarpa deserve particular attention.
