"Mataroccu" is a typical pesto of Sicilian cuisine, particularly from the Trapani area. It originated in the city of Marsala, the place where this Mayan preparation would be handed down. In the Mayan language, in fact, the tomato was called "mato".
Matarocco is a pesto made with chopped tomatoes, oil, minced garlic and basil.
