The "Minni di Virgini", in Italian "virgin's breasts", are a typical dessert of the culinary tradition of Sambuca di Sicilia. These are baked sweets in the shape of a breast with a darker protuberance in the shape of a nipple at the apex, stuffed with milk cream, chocolate, pieces of pumpkin and covered with glazed sugar.
The origins of this dessert date back to 1725 when on the occasion of the wedding of her only son, the Marquise of Sambuca asked Sister Virginia Casale di Rocca Menna, of the Collegio di Maria, to create a particular and innovative dessert. The nun, inspired by the gentle hills of the Anguillara, Castellaccio and Minnulazza valleys that she saw from the window of her room, prepared for the first time this dessert which was much appreciated by the wedding diners and which later became the traditional Sambucese dessert. .
