Sicilian Nzuddi
Dessert
Nzuddi are typical sweets of the Sicilian tradition, widespread above all in the area of Catania and Messina. These are almond biscuits flavored with orange and cinnamon with a slightly chewy consistency.
They were created by the Vincentian nuns of Catania on the occasion of the so-called Feast of the Dead on 2 November. The term "Nzuddu" derives in fact from the dialect nickname of the name Vincenzo.
In the Messina area the Nzuddi are prepared for the patronal feast of the Madonna della Letter.
