Tetù and Teio

Tetù and teio are typical Sicilian sweets. These are biscuits that are crunchy on the outside with a soft and porous heart. The name Tetù e Teio is a dialect word that can be translated as one to you and one to me.
Generally the Tetù are coated with sugar and cocoa glaze, so they have a dark color, while the Teio they are covered with simple sugar icing and take on a light color.
It was traditional to consume these Sicilian sweets on the occasion of the Feast of the Dead on November 2, but today it is possible to taste them in Sicily all year round.
These sweets they are widespread throughout Scilia but in each area they take on a different flavor and texture because among the ingredients, in addition to flour, ground almonds and lard, there is an unspecified amount of pastry scraps and leftovers, or sponge cake, waffles, hardened pastries, stuffed puffs, cakes, creams. This means that there is no single recipe for this biscuit and with each baked they take on different flavors and textures.
